The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (Unilag), Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has described the success of the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) as a testimony of many good things happening in Nigeria.
Ogundipe gave the commendation at the closing ceremony of the 26th NUGA held at the sports centre of Unilag.
He noted that Unilag had raised the standard of the competition in terms of organisation and logistics.
“Someone said to me that for now, the only good news coming out of Nigeria is NUGA because we have been able to prove to the world that apart from the negative reports in the media, there are many good things happening.
“We have been able to prove to the world that in Unilag, we can handle any programme or event and host such successfully. We have showcased to the world that our students are the best.
“We also thank the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for allowing the competition to go ahead and not worked against it,” he said.
NAN reports that other activities at the closing ceremony included the presentation of honours to the overall winner, second place and third place universities.
The former Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Atahiru Jega, presented the trophy to the overall winners, the University of Port Harcourt.
The host, Unilag, came second while the Nile University came third.
The Best Behaved Institution award went to Benson Idahosa University, Benin City.
