Operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra have arrested a seven-man gang who specialises in vandalism of electricity installations in the state.
The suspects were all arrested at Obeledu Community in Anaocha Local Government Area on July 13, in the course of the act.
A statement by Mr Edwin Okadigbo, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Anambra Command on Friday in Awka said six of the suspects came from Ebonyi, while one came from Enugu.
The suspects are Onyimonyi Chinedu (34), Nwube Sunday (32), Nwankwo Solomon (22), Ejike Stephen Ogonna (20), Johnson Chigozie (23), Nwafor Solomon (28), and Elesi Promise Chikamso (32) from Oji River, Enugu State.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the group had been into the act for some time and had operated in other communities in the state before they met their waterloo in Obeledu.
Okadigbo hinted that the arrest of the vandals, who had already made confessional statements, followed intelligence gathering and prompt information to the Command.
According to him, exhibits recovered from the suspects includes bundles of wires, casing pipe, shifting spanners, and Mud pump.
Okadigbo said Mr Isdore Chikere, NSCDC state Commandant, ordered for more discreet investigation after which the suspects would be charged to court.
The commandant commended his personnel for prompt response, and appealed to members of the public to continue to give more useful information to NSCDC to track more criminals in the area. (NAN)
