Presence of Sporting Lagos FC in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will provide a thrilling experience for visiting teams, Wahidi Akanni, a former Chairman, Lagos State Football Association, has said.
Akanni said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.
He said that, with Sporting Lagos in the NPFL, teams such as Kano Pillars and Heartland would be excited to play their matches in Lagos State.
NAN reports that Sporting Lagos, a privately-owned football club, gained promotion to the NPFL at the end of the 2022/2023 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
“I am sure players from across the country are already looking forward to come and play their away matches in Lagos so they can experience what makes Lagos thick.
“Privately-owned or not, it feels good that we will have teams from outside Lagos to play. This is sports tourism for a country with over 300 tribes,” he said.
Akanni, a former player of the defunct NEPA FC of Lagos, also expressed confidence that football enthusiasts would enjoy professional football actions at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, the club’s playing turf.
“Weekends will be something to look forward to because of the actions that will take place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
“This will encourage youngsters around the stadium.
“The impact will be massive, and I trust the handlers of the club to put their best foot forward, and everything will be okay,” Akanni said. (NAN). READ ALSO:
