Enyimba International FC of Aba on Tuesday in Aba played out 0-0 with visiting Bendel Insurance FC of Benin in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).
The home team met a determined Insurance team that was watertight at the back for the 90-minute duration of the match.
Speaking after the match, Stanley Eguma, Enyimba’s newly employed coach, said his team played well but could not convert the scoring chances that came their way.
“Today’s game was not bad. I think we got a lot of scoring chances but some players were jittery and could not make their presence count by winning the match.
“We played well but our conversion was poor. One good thing, though, is that we can play as a team. We only need a better tactical approach to finishing.
“I just resumed some eight hours ago and the thing is that, at the end of this first round, I will be able to look at the team well,” Eguma said.
He explained that there was nothing he could do, except to make use of whatever was available and ensured that the team performed better in the second round of the league.
On his part, Bendel Insurance coach, Greg Ikenogba, noted that the match went according to their gameplan.
He said the players executed the gameplan well and they were happy to come away with a point against Enyimba.
“Enyimba is a good team but no team is unbeatable if you can convert your chances.
“We keep working hard, the first round is gone and we go home, prepare for the second round and I believe we will do well,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the result lifted Enyimba to ninth on the league table with 24 points after 16 matches while Insurance stay 15th position with 21 points after 19 matches. ((NAN)
