By Gracious Akujobi Chief Operating Officer of League Management Company (LMC) Salihu Abubakar has again said that the Nigeria Premier league season will kick off on March 7.
Abubakar told Prompt News that there was no going back on the said date, saying necessary arrangements been put in place to ensure the league kicks off as planned.
He however hastened to add that the league will go on break to accommodate the general elections and the teams playing in the CAF competitions.
“We will not play on the days of the election and don’t also forget that four teams are participating in the CAF competitions so we are mindful of all those dates.
“We have carefully manoeuvred around those dates to ensure that there won’t be football during election and there won’t be football when our teams are in the continent.
“For the first round, we will play midweek matches but in the second round we will play the matches strictly in the weekends till the end of the league” he stated.
Meanwhile , fixtures for the first week shows that the star match for the opening week of the league is between former league winners Heartland FC and the current league champions Kano Pillars.
