History was made on Thursday last week when a collaboration Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, (NITT) which is Nigeria’s pioneer public sector institute for Transport and Logistics and Multimix Academy, the nation’s premier and leading private sector Academy for Logistics and supply chain management to deepen the capacity of professionals in the sector.
Dr. Bayero Salih- Farah, Director-General/Chief Executive of NITT signed on behalf of Institute while Dr. Madu Obiorah Chairman/CEO Multimix Academy signed on behalf of his organization.
The two parties recognized the need to engender opportunities in the transport and logistics industry through research, training and innovation and to create measurable impact in the transport and logistics industry. The parties to the MOU agreed to partner in recognition of the capacity of the institute in the transport and logistics sector; as well as Multimix Academy’s competencies and expertise in same area. The partnership will cover both the short term and long term programmes/courses.
The relationship has given birth to two courses of contemporary importance to the nation. Post Graduate Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and The Post Graduate Diploma in Cold Chain Logistics Management and the collaboration promises a lot more going by the successes already recorded. They have deployed technology that enables Nigerians and even people outside Nigeria to access the courses at the convenience of their homes or offices.
According to Salih-Farah, “the partnership was created to leverage on the capacity of the institute in the transport and logistics sector, and faculty and the technology platform of the Multimix academy. The objectives as identified by MOU include: greater Industry impact, create a greater participation in the institute’s programmes, to enable the institute take its proper place in the industry and deploy innovation technology in human resources development in the industry.
“Others include; to create greater awareness for employment opportunities, impact entrepreneurial/employability skills to participants of the institute’s programmes, improve the overall organizational performance and customers satisfaction in the transport and Logistics industry and expose participants to emerging and global best practices in the industry.
Furthermore, the collaboration will provide quality Transport Logistics and Supply Chain education that is practicable to the demands of the ever-changing market conditions, and applicable to the ever-changing needs of the industry.
On his own part, Multimix Chairman, Obiorah Madu said the rationale behind the establishment of the courses reflect the growing importance of logistics and supply chain management as a differentiating factor for nations’ competitiveness.
Graduates of the programs he explained, can quickly progress through the transport cadre in the public sector as well as the management structures of major blue chip companies receiving excellent salaries and benefits packages as they go.
