Nigerian Navy Arrests Suspected Niger Delta Avengers Militant

SAPELE – By Okiemute Okpomor              The Nigerian Navy has arrested a suspected militant, Abraham Suru aka Gabon alleged to be a member of the dreaded Niger Delta Avengers, a militant group that vowed to cripple the economy of the nation.

He was arrested by the Navy around Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, the suspect, Gabon, from Ondo State, was arrested weeks after he had been declared wanted by the Nigerian military for being responsible for incessant attacks on oil and gas facilities within Warri North and Warri South-West Local Government  areas of the state.

Parading the suspect at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, the

Commanding officer, Commodore Jik Dzunve told Prompt News Online that the arrest was made possible due to the ongoing efforts of the federal government to stop crude oil theft and illegal bunkering activities in the nation’s maritime domain.

Commodore Dzunve said the arrested suspect has been in the criminal business since 2011, adding that the suspect has been involved in several “pipeline vandalism, sea robbery, attacks on shipping, illegal bunkering and currently a suspected member of Niger Delta Avengers.”

He said the Nigerian Navy and particularly NNS Delta is not relenting in the fight against crude oil theft and other illegal activities.

While assuring the public that the Navy component of Operations Delta Safe was resolute in curbing criminal activities in the nation’s

maritime environment,  Commodore Dzunve stressed that the Navy remains committed to apprehending those behind all forms of criminality in the nation’s waterways.
