The North East Development Commission (NEDC), has presented medical equipment and drugs to some selected hospitals in Borno.
Presenting the items at a ceremony on Monday in Maiduguri, the Borno Coordinator of NEDC, Mr Mohammed Umar, said that the equipment were for the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
He added that the assorted drugs were for 10 selected primary healthcare centres across the state.
Umar said the equipment for UMTH comprised Automated Nucleic Acid Extracting instrument, Laboratory Incubator, Bio-Safety cabinets, Auto Clave, Oxygen Cylinder, Ventilator and Mobile Thermometer.
He said the presentation came few weeks after the commission concluded training on cervical cancer
for some medical personnel across the six states of north east.
While reiterating the commitment of the commission to sustain interventions in healthcare and other sectors in line with its mandate, Umar urged benefitting health centres to deploy them into offering quality services to patients.
In his response, the Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Prof. Ahmed Ahijo, represented by his aide, Mr Dahiru Hamman, thanked NEDC for its sustained support to the hospital, describing the latest support as timely.
Also speaking on behalf of benefitting primary healthcare centres, the State Director, Disease Control and Immunisation, Dr Aliyu Shettima, said the support would improve quality service at the benefitting facilities across the three senatorial zones in the state.
Shettima lauded NEDC for its sustained support, assuring that the drugs presented would be properly utilised for maximum benefit. (NAN)
