By Mohammed Yangida, Lafia Governor Umaru Almakura of Nasarawa State has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company, Tongyo group engineering.
The MOU was signed on Monday at the Government house Lafia, the state capital.
Al-makura said the state is in a hurry to meet up with other states of the federation through development that have direct bearing on the lives of its people.
He stated further that the state has to be liberated from the shackles of under development due to lack of certain infrastructures which caused the state development in stagnant.
As according to him, “I will not relent on embarking on this project”, adding that the when completed would serve as both civil and cargo operations.
“We are on our way to open -up the state through development due to its proximity to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This project will complement the services of FCT,” he said.
The Tongyo Company would pay 75 percent of the project while Nasarawa state government will pay 25 per cent in six years.
On his part the project consultant, captain Hassan Jim said the Airport when completed would not only boost the economic future of the state, but also other neighboring states.
He commended the state government for embarking on the airport project which would attract development to the state.
