Nasarawa Govt kick-starts campaign against kidnapping, rape

The Nasarawa state government, on Tuesday, embarked on mass sensitization and awareness on the spate of kidnapping and rape across the state.

The state commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism,  Hon. Dogo Shammah, kick-started the awareness campaign with a symbolic distribution of flyers in Lafia, the state capital.

According to the commissioner, with cases of kidnapping and rape on the rise, which have become worrisome not only to the people of the state but investors equally, the state government is taking drastic measures to ensure the security and safety of the citizens and their properties.

“As you will agree, kidnapping and other crimes have increased fears in the minds of the people of the state who no longer move freely, while the demands for ransom after being kidnapped is also wearing our economic base.

“When the present government came on board, his excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule made a commitment of ensuring adequate provision of security that would not compromise peace, economic development and growth of the state.

“It may interest you to note that following the effort of our amiable governor, Engr Abdullahi  A Sule’s quest to fast track development, with this, the orientation and mobilization department will embark in massive distribution of these flyers across the state

He reiterated the commitment of the administration in providing the best form of security in Nasarawa state.

Shammah said the ministry will embark on radio and television programmes as well, to reach out to the entire people of the state.

The commissioner, while noting that the issue of security is a collective responsibility and not of government alone, called on the public to report all criminal elements or suspicious activities in their domains.
