The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B has condemned in strong terms, a publication in a national daily by one Elija Udi oghenekevwe, which it viewed was aimed at casting aspersion on the person of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students’ Affairs, Jude Imague.
A statement by NANS Zone B Public Relations Officer, Pedro Obi, insisted that the Zone’s election held recently in Cross Rivers state remains the freest and fairest election ever witnessed in the history of NANS.
Obi states, “It is imperative that as the Public Relations Officer of the largest NANS Zone in the nation, I put the record straight as it were, that;
“Hon. (Snr. Comrade) Jude Imague, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students’ Affairs, is a true elder-statesman and ambassador of the zone in whom we are well pleased and therefore would not take it likely with any person or group of persons that intend to cast aspersions on his office/person, all in a bid to mislead the general public.
“The NANS Zone B election that took place on the 03/03/2014 at Akamkpa, Cross River State, was the “freest and fairest” election we have ever witnessed in the history of NANS in this nation and has been also acclaimed by the general public as a model for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to emulate in order to give the nation a free and fair election come 2015.
“Hon. (Snr. Comrade) Jude Imague was on ground at Akamkpa, just like any other stakeholder that has the interest of the zone at heart and never influenced the outcome of the election as alleged by Elija Udi, as there was a level playing field for all aspirants at the convention.
“The said Elija Udi contested alongside three other aspirants and polled a total vote of 17 as against Comr. Ikechukwu Okorie (the Coordinator of the zone) who polled a total of 26 votes, being the highest number of valid votes cast.
“I enjoin all other aspirants to follow after the foot-steps of Comrade Nwagwu Liberty Kelechi (Co-ordinatorship Aspirant), whom have since congratulated the newly elected executives, for the zone to be at peace.
“I want to also specifically assure everyone that there is enough room in the zone to accommodate everybody.
“We must also be aware that NANS Zone B is the Pace-Setter amongst other zones in NANS and on this note; everybody is needed to move the zone to the next level. Therefore, we must all subsume our personal interests for the general interest of the Nigerian Students in the zone and across the Federation”.
