The Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) on Tuesday distributed 30,000 bags of 10kg rice to less privileged Muslims in the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the palliatives were donated to MUSCOYS by the Dangote Foundation for onward distribution to poor Muslims in the state.
Speaking during the distribution, MUSCOYS Chairman, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, said that 500 bags would be given to each of the LGA to alleviate their hardship.
According to him, the palliatives will go a long way in assisting the beneficiaries to feed their families.
Acknowledging that the bags of rice were not sufficient for all indigent Muslims in the state, he said the gesture would still relieve beneficiaries in one way or the other.
Sanni called on those saddled with the distribution in the 33 LGAs to fear God and be just with the task.
He appreciated the Dangote Foundation, saying it has been touching the lives of the less privileged in the few last decades.
“Let me, at this time, appreciate our brother, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, for extending his generosity to cushion the hardship in our country.
“Whoever is not grateful to man cannot be grateful to Allah.
“We hope members of the Dangote Foundation present here will convey our gratitude to Alhaji Aliko Dangote,” he said.
Sanni further called on Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to take the plight of Muslims in the state seriously and not forget them in the forthcoming Eld-Kabir celebration.
A representative of the Dangote Foundation, Mr Abayomi Sowumi, said the foundation donated the palliatives as a gesture to support the less privileged in the society.
