The Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) has introduced Digital stamps that will aid and facilitate the operations of mining engineers and consultants in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the Digital Stamps in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Olamilekan Adegbite said the new system replaced the analogue and cumbersome way of doing business in the Mining sector.
The Minister who was impressed with the new innovation said when he assumed office, COMEG was comatose, but with the calibre of its present leadership headed by Prof Zacheus Opafunso as Registrar, the regulator has improved the registration of practitioners.
He disclosed that consequently, the Ministry plans to review the present COMEG Act with a view to “introducing appropriate professional fees”.
Stressing that the Digital Stamps will now replace the old analogue system, Adegbite said, “from today (Tuesday 1st March, 2022), any job that does not come with the Digital Stamps, will be rejected “.
The Minister then urged the practitioners in the mining industry to abide by the ethics of the profession by switching from analogue to the newly introduced Digital Stamps.
