A mechanic identified as Samson has been killed after he was allegedly lured to the Abijo area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, under the guise of repairing a Mercedes-Benz car.
The incident, according to a police source, occurred on Tuesday, September 15, after Samson, who operated a workshop around Warike Estate, was contacted to fix the vehicle.
He reportedly proceeded to the location where the car was said to be, only to be taken into a bush and allegedly hacked to death.
The police source said, “The victim was lured to the location on the pretext of going to repair a Mercedes-Benz car. We were told that when he got there, he was taken into the bush and killed.”
The source added that investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible, noting that suspected cultists were believed to be behind the incident.
Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, in a post sighted by PUNCH Metro, claimed that Samson’s killing was carried out in retaliation for the death of a cult member identified as Ola Sheu.
The platform alleged that Sheu, said to be a member of the Eiye confraternity, was killed by members of the NBM on September 9 around Adeba Bus Stop in the Lakowe area of Ibeju-Lekki.
It further claimed that Samson was identified as a member of the rival group after a photograph of him wearing an Aye cult beret during his graduation was shared online to celebrate his birthday.
According to the platform, the photograph allegedly exposed his identity to rival cultists, who subsequently targeted him in retaliation for Sheu’s death.
However, when contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident but said the deceased’s family initially reported that his whereabouts were unknown.

Adebisi said detectives swung into action after receiving the report and visited Samson’s apartment, adding that efforts were ongoing to track his mobile phone and establish what happened to him.
“The case remains under investigation,” she added.
