Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa has pledged to provide enabling environment for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), deployed to the state.
He said this during the swearing-in of 1,533 corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream I, orientation exercise, on Friday in Dutse.
Represented by Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Namadi said creating enabling environment for the youths would avail them opportunities to maximise their potentials in keeping with the ideals of the scheme.
He said the measure was imperative to ensure the needed support to the scheme, to enhance its capacity towards achieving its core mandate.
The governor enjoined the corps members to feel at home and enjoy the hospitality of residents of the state, adding that Jigawa was flowing with rich cultural heritage, unique agricultural produce and conducive atmosphere that promotes healthy lifestyle and entrepreneurship.
Namadi said the corps members would be exposed to unlimited opportunities in line with strategic plans of his administration aimed at transforming the state.
He urged them to expand their linguistic abilities by learning their host community, which would not only enhance their interactions and tolerance, but also assist them if they decide to settle in the state after their service year.
Jidda Dawut, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, commended the state government over the renovation of the camp and food augmentation for the corps members.
He also urged the state government to expand the multipurpose hall to accommodate the increasing number of corps members, and installation of a new generator to address erratic power supply at the camp as well as augment feeding of the Corps members.
This, he said, would enhance the scheme operations, especially during orientation exercise.
The coordinator commended the positive attitude of the corps members during the orientation exercise, adding that, “Ttey have adjusted well to camp life, their enthusiasm and resilience have created an atmosphere of unifying purpose, which bodes well for a successful orientation course.
“The 1,533 corps members deployed to the state have already exhibited positive virtues and high standard of patriotism on arrival to the orientation camp, which is a clear indication that they will excel in the tasks assigned to them during the orientation course and service year,” he said.
Dawut tasked them to participate actively in all camp activities, promote tradition of industry at work and develop common ties through shared experiences, while creating avenues for long lasting relationships. (NAN).
