The Edo State House of Assembly has donated 48 motorbikes to the State Security Network to support the government’s effort in combating insecurity in the state.

Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku, said while presenting the motorbikes to the beneficiaries on Tuesday that the distribution would be evenly done across the constituencies.

Agbebaku, who noted that the donation was to commemorate the lawmakers one year in office, urged the state security network to use the motorbikes for the purpose they were donated.

While urging well-meaning Edo citizens to support governments’ effort, he said Governor Godwin Obaseki’s investment in security had brought relative peace and an enabling environment for business to thrive in the state.

“We were one year in office on June 16 and in the spirit of the celebration, we decided to purchase these 48 power motorbikes to support the state security architecture to combat crimes.

“A state free of crimes will guarantee better development, that is why as a house, we are supporting and contributing our own quota to ensure the safety of Edo people.

“Where a car cannot get to, the motorbikes will be able to maneuver its way, especially to the rural communities.”

According to the speaker, the motorbikes came with full gadgets, first aid boxes and safety helmets.

Receiving the motorbikes on behalf of the Edo State Security Network, the State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, commended the lawmakers for providing the support towards combating crimes in the state.

Adegboye, represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Operations, James Chu, said that the motorbikes would further enhance the operations of the state Security Network in assisting the police in combating crimes.

According to him, fighting crimes is a collective responsibility of everyone and it is geared towards ensuring a safer and secured society.

Also speaking, the Coordinator, Edo State Security Network, Kole Omomia, noted that the donation was a landmark achievement that should be emulated by well-meaning individuals.

Omomia, however, assured the lawmakers that the motorbikes would aid their operations especially in rural communities.

Also, the House Committee Chairman on Security, Kingsley Ugabi, congratulated the men of the security network, urging them to use the motorbikes to combat crimes in the various constituencies and keep the people safe.

Meanwhile, the House has passed a bill for a law to establish and regulate the Edo State fire and Rescue Service law 2024. (NAN).
