In line with Section 28 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which provides that the Notice of Election must be given no later than 360 days before the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Election.
This is even as the Timetable and Schedule of Activities released by the Commission showed that the first activity of the FCT Area Council Election will come up on February 26, 2025, which is exactly 360 days before the election.
Prompt News reports that a closer look at the Timetable and Schedule of Activities released by INEC showed that conduct of political party primaries to enable political parties democratically nominate candidates and the resolution of disputes arising from the primaries will commence on June 9, 2025 and end on June 30, 2025.
Also, submission of Forms EC (9), EC 9F and EC 9G online (Nomination Portal) will start on July 21, 2025 and end on August 11, 2025 while the publication of personal particulars of candidates (EC9) by the Commission will take place on August 18, 2025 in accordance with Section 29 (3) of the Electoral Act 2022 which provides for publication within seven days of the receipt of Form EC9.
