The last may not have been heard about the vacant senatorial seat of Imo North (Okigwe) Senatorial Zone as the Court of Appeal in Owerri has disqualified one of the contestants on the ticket of All Progressives Congress (APC), Ifeanyi Ararume from standing as a candidate in the December 5, 2020 Imo North senatorial by-election.
The Appeal Court presided over by Justice Uchechukwu Onyeama Friday declared that Frank Ibezim is the rightful candidate of the APC in this Saturday’s by-election.
Both candidates have been laying claims to the ticket of APC with former senator (Ararume) filling a law suit at a Federal High Court against Ibezim who subsequently disqualified by the Court.
Not satisfied with the verdict of the lower court, Ibezim ran to the Appeal Court and in the lead judgement delivered by Justice Onyeama, the petitioner has been declared the authentic candidate of APC in the by-election.
The Imo North Senatorial seat became vacant following the death of ex-Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu whose position will be filled by one of the many candidates jostling for the plum post including the APC candidate, Ibezim.
He will however has an uphill task as he has to contend with the candidates of strong parties in the South East in general and Imo State in particular namely Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Therefore, Imo North Senatorial seat by-election will be a three horse race involving APC, PDP and APGA.
