In a bid to recreate their culture even when they are far away from their ancestral homeland, the Igbo community in Abuja from Imo state under the auspices of Imo Community Association (ICA) Abuja will on Saturday, November 20, celebrate its 2021 Cultural Day with the theme: ‘Alaowu Otu’.
The event which will take place at Model Secondary School on Lake Chad Crescent in the highbrow Maitama in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, will feature cultural displays of Ndi Imo, native wares, products, music, dances and food of the Imo state indigenes.
According to a statement by the President-General of Imo Community Association Abuja, Nze (Barrister) Okechukwu Nzeukwu, the Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma will be the Special Guest of Honour while FCT Minister, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Bello is the Chief Host.
Other dignitaries who will grace the occasion include Imo state-born Minister of State, Education, Chief Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba (Co-host); Professor Fidelis Paul Onyenekwe (Guest of Honour) and Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Charles Ugomuo (Rtd) who is the BoT Chairman of the organisation while Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu, Major General Nicholas Ibeh (Rtd) and Maazi Chidi Ndupu (Mayor) will serve as Chairman and Co-Chairmen of the event respectively.
The unveiling of the Cultural Day is His Royal Majesty Eze (Dr) Cletus Ilomuanya, former Chairman South East Traditional Rulers Council just as the Royal Father of the Day is His Royal Highness Eze (Dr) Sir Nwosu Ibe, Igbo 1 of Abuja.
Meanwhile, Dr. Charles Robin-Njoku, Chairman, Imo Cultural Day 2021 Planning Committee has promised a good time for Imo indigenes and guests who will attend the occasion, adding that the rich cultural heritage of Ndi Imo in particular and the Igbos in general will be on display on November 20.
