Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has paid an emotional tribute to his late father and originator of Afrobeat, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, 27 years after his death.
In an Instagram post, Seun said Fela’s impact on their lives had continued to grow since his death in 1997.
He wrote, “Every year since you passed to the great beyond, your impact on our lives has continued to grow.
“Every note, every phrase, every dance, every song and every album is to show my love for you.
“I miss you! I play my sax for you dad, I live for your legacy and I am loyal to the mission. Love you big man more than words can express.”
Seun was 14 years old when he became the lead singer of Egypt 80. The band had sustained the infectious groove of Afrobeat worldwide under the direction of his late father.
