The Nasarawa state government, Tuesday, kick-started the distribution of palliatives to the poorest households across the 13 local government areas of the state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule flagged-off the distribution of the food items donated by the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) in Lafia.
The food items donated by CACOVID are: 43,346 cartons of noodles, 21,000 bags of rice 18 bags of semolina, 600 gallons of vegetable oil, 18,000 bags of salt, 20,590 cartons of macaroni and 240,000 cartons of sugar.
According to the governor, the commodities will be shared across the one thousand, four hundred and ninety-five (1,495) polling units in the State.
Sule instructed that the food items are to be shared to the poorest households who have no source of income to cater for their daily needs.
“In this wise, salary earners, businessmen and other privileged people are exempted from this intervention” he stated.
He charged the state Steering Committee on COVID-19 to ensure strict supervision and keen monitoring of the distribution process, urging them to justify the confidence Government reposed in them by ensuring transparency and fairness in the distribution of these palliatives.
“I need to put on notice that the Palliative Committee at all levels will be held accountable for any anomaly in the distribution of the palliatives,” he warned.
He restated his commitment in the fight against COVID-19 in the State, assuring the public that his government will continue to enforce preventive measures with a view to protect the citizens from contracting the virus.
The governor thanked CACOVID for their immense contributions towards the fight against the virus, reiterating that his administration will continue to support and complement the effort of individuals and groups in turning around the fortunes of the State.
