Nollywood veteran Kanayo O. Kanayo has criticised some Ghanaian actors for allegedly demanding the same fees paid to Nigerian actors when they work on the same movie productions.
Kanayo, who is currently in Ghana alongside fellow actress Patience Ozokwo and other Nigerian stars, expressed his displeasure during an interview with a Ghanaian media outlet.
The actor claimed some Ghanaian performers have developed a habit of comparing their fees with those of Nigerian actors and pressuring producers to pay them similar amounts.
According to Kanayo, he has earned his position in Nollywood through years of experience and described himself as one of the pioneers of the Nigerian film industry.
He alleged that the issue also arose on a production he is preparing to work on in Ghana, saying he was ready to identify the actors involved before he was advised against doing so.
Prompt News reports Kanayo urged Ghanaian actors to negotiate their own fees instead of comparing their earnings with those of Nigerian actors.
“I am KOK. I was among the founding fathers. You now wake up in Ghana. They called KOK to come and act in Ghana; you, Ghanaian boy, will now insist they pay you the same fees as me. It happens even up to today.
“There is hierarchy even in heaven. The movie industry has hierarchy.
“Negotiate what you want to be paid. Don’t equate yourself with me.”

The veteran actor further argued that Ghanaian performers should not concern themselves with how much Nigerian actors are paid for their roles.
“Tell your Ghanaian brothers and sisters, it is not your business what they pay Nigerian actors.
“Go and negotiate your own, receive it and go and rest; and then you will have peace in your life, otherwise I will invoke Amadioha.”
