Gender-Based Violence: Ekiti governor’s wife seeks transporters’ support




The wife of Ekiti governor, Mrs , has solicited the support of transport workers in ending Gender-Based Violence in the state.

Fayemi urged leaders of transport workers on Monday during their visit to her office in Ado-Ekiti to provide adequate and separate toilets for male and female passengers within motor parks.

This, she said, was to prevent unnecessary exposure of female passengers to .

Fayemi said Gender Based Violence, and other acts of sexual violence should be constantly discussed at union meetings.

She said:  ” Constitute a committee to serve as a watch dog in the prevention of Gender Based Violence among members of the various associations

“Provide adequate security within the motor parks to discourage perpetrators.

” Ensure that all avenues for perpetrators like overgrown bushes are cleared and unused lock-up shops are put into use.”

The governor’s wife also urged the leaders to discourage the sale and intake of alcohol and drugs as enhancers.

The Chairman of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, Mr Rotimi Olabiwonninu, promised to partner with Fayemi to tackle by transport workers.

Also speaking, the Officer, Okada Riders Association, Mr Yemi Afolalu, assured the governor’s wife of support in fighting the menace.
