The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has stated that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is too important to be governed by opposition parties like the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Ganduje made these remarks on Thursday in Abuja at a reception for new APC members who defected from various opposition parties.

One of the defectors, Chris Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), led the group to the event at the old parade ground in Abuja.

According to Ganduje, the defections reflect growing confidence in the APC among FCT residents and demonstrate the increasing popularity of the ruling party.

He expressed optimism that this support would lead to a victory for President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the next election cycle.

Ganduje emphasized the significance of the FCT as the nation’s capital and a symbol of national unity, underscoring that it should not be left under the leadership of opposition parties.

He also commended President Tinubu for appointing several Abuja indigenes to key positions in his administration, highlighting that this inclusiveness has bolstered the party’s presence and influence in the territory.

During the event, Minister of Special Duties, Zephaniah Jisalo, praised the president for fulfilling his commitment to empower Abuja natives and provide them with a voice in the government. Jisalo, a native of the FCT, reassured the crowd of Tinubu’s continued focus on inclusive development.

Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Bunkure, also spoke at the rally, encouraging residents to maintain their support for the APC, noting that the administration is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the territory.

The “Abuja Unity Rally” drew prominent figures, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, local government chairpersons, councillors, and other political leaders from across the country.
