Impressed by its contributions to the campaign for a safer road, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has honoured Prompt News Online Newspapers with ‘FRSC Merit Award’ at the Commission’s 34th Anniversary Award & Dinner Nite held on Friday in Abuja.
Prompt News was among the few national media organisations which received the Award for partnering with FRSC in the fight for an accident-free Nigeria by reporting the Commission’s activities.
Presenting the Award to Mr. Harry Awurumibe, Editor, Abuja Bureau who received it on behalf of the Publisher, Mr. Akeem Oyetunji, FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi said the Award is a reward for the newspaper’s contributions to the success story of the Commission.
Speaking, Awurumibe thanked the Commission for recognising the newspaper and promised to continue supporting FRSC to deliver on its mandate.
Earlier in his welcome address, Oyeyemi said that the Awards recipients were being honoured for their contributions to the Commission’s current eminent status as it turned 34 years old this year. FRSC was established on February 18, 1988.
He also said that the Commission had made impressive progress in managing road safety since its inception thanks to the help of relevant stakeholders, including Prompt News Online Newspaper.
Oyeyemi said the FRSC’s founding fathers had conceived the idea of a modern road safety lead agency for the country to address road safety issues.
This, he said, is an institution staff who would be willing and ready to render a selfless service that would bring sanity to the highways, reduce traffic accidents with their accompanying deaths and injuries, and bring relief to all highway users.
According to him, these are the ideals that the FRSC represents and to which successive leaderships have committed themselves to ensure their achievement and support.
“Today, we may not have reached the final destination set on our tortuous journey to an accident-free nation or fully realized the vision of creating a safe motoring environment.
“But all discerning Nigerians are convinced that the FRSC has done a lot considering its modest achievements.
“I want to assure everyone that the Corps will remain focused on achieving its mandate to create a safe motoring environment and achieve a country where traffic accidents do not cause fatalities,” he said.
Oyeyemi further said that the Awards given were to honour the people and stakeholders who had helped in the development of road safety management over the years.
Other honourees included the Nigerian Television Authority, the Nigerian Federal Radio Corporation, the National Road Transport Workers Union, and the National Drug Enforcement Agency.
