Super Eagles defender Benjamin Fredrick is expected to make his competitive debut for Brentford in tonight’s Carabao Cup clash against Reading, Prompt News Online reports.
Fredrick initially joined Brentford on loan from Simoiben Football Academy in August 2023 before the move was made permanent in April 2024. The 21-year-old subsequently signed a four-year contract with the Premier League club.
The defender was named in Brentford’s first-team matchday squad for the first time in January 2024, when he was an unused substitute in an FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Brentford manager Keith Andrews has confirmed that Fredrick is expected to feature against Reading.
“He hasn’t had a lot of football. We decided not to play him yesterday (Sunday) in the B team game to make sure he was in the right place to be available today,” Andrews told reporters at a press conference.
“I anticipate he’ll be involved.”
Fredrick spent last season on loan at Belgian club Dender EH, where he gained valuable first-team experience.
However, his campaign was cut short after he sustained an injury while on international duty with Nigeria in November.
The injury ruled him out for the remainder of the 2025/26 season and also forced him to miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Eagles finished third.
