A former Commissioner for Information in Zamfara State, Ibrahim Dosara, has rejected Governor Dauda Lawal’s recent claim that only N4 million was left in the state’s treasury by the previous administration.
In an interview with Arise TV on April 14, Governor Lawal alleged he inherited a dysfunctional state from his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, who now serves as Minister of State for Defence.
But addressing journalists in Kaduna on Monday, Dosara described the claim as false.
He stated that the previous administration left significant funds, including N14 billion in bond proceeds, N2.6 billion from World Bank accruals, N6.3 billion in Universal Basic Education grants, and N2.7 billion from the NG Cares World Bank investment, which he said generated an additional N42 billion.
Dosara also addressed the issue of salary arrears, noting that the outgoing administration left a backlog of three months’ salaries, which he attributed to limited cash inflow and restrictions reportedly imposed by Lawal before assuming office.
He argued that the delays were not unusual and denied there was any half-month salary payment in the system.
