By Gracious Akujobi Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema helped his side beat Honduras 3-0 as they top Group E with that emphatic win.
Honduras appeared set to keep a clean sheet going into the dressing room when Wilson Palacios conceded a penalty and was sent packing for a clear barge on Paul Pogba.Benzema took the resultant kick and scored France’s opener in the 45th minute.
Honduras goal keeper Valladares endured the indignity of scoring an own goal, spilling the ball over the line in his attempts to gather a Benzema volley that had rebounded off the inside of the post for France’s second goal in the 48th minute.
With few minutes remaining, Benzema nailed the Honduras coffin by scoring the third goal in the 72th minute smashing an unstoppable shot into the net from an acute angle after Mathieu Debuchy’s initial attempt at goal was blocked.
Les Blues as the French team is called will now march on to face neighbours Switzerland, who also began with a win, while Honduras will aim to get off the mark against Ecuador.
