Nigerian U- 17 women’s team Flamingoes Thursday beat Kogi Confluence Queens of Lokoja 2 – 1 in a friendly match played in Abuja.
Flamingoes dashing attacker Cynthia Aku put her side ahead in the 15th minute after an exchange of passes by the youth team.
Efforts by the more mature Kogi Queens to come back to the party did not yield result till first half ended.
On resumption Flamingoes continued to impress but no goals to show for it.
But a handful of fans who watched the tie at the hot FIFA Goal Project were excited when Flamingoes Yetunde Fajobi scored the second goal in the 58th minute.
Kogi Queens however scored the face-saving goal in the 87th minute of the highly explosive match.
Speaking after the encounter Coach Bala Nkiyu praised his players for putting up an imptessive display against a tough team like Kogi Queens.
He said that he will continue to build a strong team that will beat South Africa next month in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Africa Qualifier match against South Africa.
