The Kano State Police Command has arrested five persons for allegedly destroying billboards and campaign posters belonging to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other political figures in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Sunday while responding to questions from journalists on security measures and the enforcement of the ban on public horse riding and processions in the state.
Bakori said the suspects were arrested following investigations into the destruction of property during tensions linked to horse riding and public processions in Kano.
He said the investigation had been concluded and the suspects had been charged before a court.
The police commissioner warned that the command would continue to prosecute individuals whose actions threatened public peace and security in the state.
The arrests were linked to a public outing by the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, on Sunday.
Bakori said preliminary reports indicated that some individuals accompanying the emir allegedly vandalised posters and billboards belonging to Tinubu, Yusuf and other politicians.
The incident reportedly added to tensions in the state, where the Kano Emirate dispute has remained a contentious issue.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to enforcing the law, urging residents to desist from actions capable of escalating tension or disturbing the peace.
