The Federal government on Thursday signed programme implementation agreements with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) for execution of eight projects valued at three hundred and thirty-one million pounds (£331.6m) across the country.
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen Atiku Abubakar Bagudu signed the Agreement on behalf of Nigeria while the United Kingdom Charge d’ Affaires, Ms Cynthia Rowe signed for her country.
The Agreements include, Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (£38m); Nigeria Governance and Climat Change Programme (£38.8m); Equipment Support for Health Training Institutions; Climate Resilient Infrastructure for Basic Services (£19m) and Building Resilience in Nigeria’s Nutrition Stockpile (£12m).
Others are, Strengthening Humanitarian Access in Nigeria (£11m); Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience Programme with a total budget of £150m over a 3 year period and Manufacturing Africa with a total Budget of (£70m for a period of 7 years and will be implemented across five African countries including Nigeria.
Speaking at signing ceremony, Senator Bagudu noted that the FCDO in Nigeria is actively engaged in various sectors of the country namely, Governance, Human development, the Lake Chad Basin Conflict, UK-Nigeria People-to-People Links and Economic Transformation.
According to the Minister the FCDO in Nigeria focuses on four main objectives, including delivering honest, reliable investment; providing women and girls with the freedom they need to succeed; stepping up life saving support in times of crises and promoting sustainable economic development.
“These objectives are part of the UK’S broader commitment to supporting a more stable, inclusive, resilient, healthy, and prosperous Nigeria, with a focus on partnership and mutual accountability”, he added.
