The Federal Government has initiated an investigation into the jailbreak that occurred at the Koton Karfe Custodial Centre in Kogi State.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, expressed concern over the incident in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Babatunde Alao, on Monday in Abuja.
He assured that security measures, including biometric tracking and advanced technology, would be used to recapture the escaped inmates.
To assess the situation, the Minister instructed the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, to visit the facility.
He also directed a comprehensive review to uncover the factors that led to the breach.
“Our officers are actively managing the situation in Kogi, and I have ordered a thorough assessment of the incident,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
Prompt News reports that at least 12 inmates managed to escape, while a custodial officer remains unaccounted for.
