By Gracious Akujobi The Director General of National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye on Wednesday presented a trophy to members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), FCT Chapter ahead of their week-long social event scheduled to start this Friday.
While handing over the trophy which would be presented to the winner of a football competition, Elegbeleye, who became the first DG to offer such gesture to SWAN, restated the resolve of the commission to partner with media in its activities.
He thanked the sporting reporters for their untiring effort towards promoting and sensitizing the public concerning the programmes of NSC, the former Deputy Chairman House Committee on Sports reechoed “SWAN has been a real partner in progress and without you we won’t go this far”.
Continuing he said “Since I have been here, I can tell you our relationships have been very good, very cordial and the result we have been having in Sports for the past two years is part of the your cooperation”.
Speaking, FCT SWAN Chairman Kayode Adeniyi, outlined various activities lined up for SWAN week celebration, noting that the sports commission has witnessed tremendous improvement since the assumption of Elegbeleye as DG.
He reassured him of the continuous support of Abuja SWAN in reporting issues relating to government programmes and policies on sports development.
The SWAN event will run from November 28 – December 5.
