The FCT Cricket Association has concluded the training of selected Secondary schools Game Masters, two weeks after the Association’s stakeholders meeting with School Principals.
The training is in line with its resolve to revive the game in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
No fewer than 18 Game Masters from Selected 13 Secondary Schools took part in the 3-day Introductory Cricket Coaching course.
Newly appointed FCT Cricket Coach, Olisa Egwatu who trained the Sports teachers took them on the rudimentary introduction as well as understanding the game itself.
Others are imparting the basic skills on them and thought them on how to organize and teach the basics to their students.
Deputy Director, Sports, FCT Education Board, Lukas Innocent commended the Association for taking the game to the Schools. He said such collaboration with the Schools will help in further developing the game in the Federal Capital Territory.
Chairman, FCT Cricket Association and former, President, Nigeria Cricket Federation, Engineer Emeka Onyeama applauded the FCT Education Board for keen into the revival of the game of Cricket in the Territory.
He however appealed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to approve land for the Association to build Cricket Oval where they can hold Cricket competitions among Schools
Cricket training equipment like cricket Balls, cricket Bats, helmet, batting gloves, cricket leg guards, cricket gloves, wicket, Arm and Chest guards as well as cricket bags were distributed to the participants to use for training of their students.
