The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malami Muhammad Musa Bello on Tuesday inaugurated the newly elected Chairmen and Councilors of the six Area Councils of the FCT.
Prompt News reports that the once postponed event took place inside the Cyprian Ekwensi Center for Arts and Culture located at Area 10, Garki, Abuja amidst tight security.
All the access roads leading to the venue of the inauguration were blocked with vehicles belonging to the Police, Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and other paramilitary agencies to prevent vehicular movements around the area.
Also, the FCT Administration shutdown all the shopping complexes within the Cyprian Ekwensi Center for Arts and Culture with a written warning that these business premises be closed from 7 am to 12 noon on Tuesday.
It was observed that the road closure created untold hardship to commuters and petty traders who were not allowed to come close to the inauguration venue just as dignitaries and invited guests were seen making their ways to the venue to witness the landmark occasion.
The Area Councils that their Chairmen and Councillors-elect were inaugurated include AMAC whose Chairman Mr. Christopher Zakka (Maikalangu) was seen exchanging pleasantries with his supporters.
Others who were sworn-in are Chairmen and Councillors of Bwari, Kuje, Gwagwalada, Abaji and Kwali Area Councils.
Recall that the inauguration ceremony slated for May 19 by the FCT Minister was aborted after a court order stopped it, although Justice Ibrahim Mohammed of the FCT High Court who had erroneously granted a one year extension to the outgoing Chairmen and Councilors of the six FCT Area Councils revised himself on June 11 after admitting to his mistake in his first judgment on the inauguration.
