The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has begun a massive sponsorship drive to raise fund to contract a foreign coach for the senior national women team, Super Falcons, we can report authoritatively.
Official source told Prompt News Online exclusively that the Technical and Development Committee at its meeting on Tuesday during which Edwin Okon was announced as the Super Falcons Interim Coach, also recommended that a seasoned foreign technical adviser should be hired for the Super Falcons.
Our source further hinted that the decision to hire a foreign coach for Super Falcons was informed by the inability of the team which has been dominating Africa for years and to make appreciable mark at the world level.
“Our local coaches have their best by taking us to the zenith of African women soccer for 20 years but have lost gear in recent years by failing to qualify for All African Games and the Olympic Games.
“That we failed to win even a bronze at the African Woman Championship last year is enough reason to look beyond the shores of Nigeria or Africa for a coach. We need a tested and good coach to help Falcons grow further” our very reliable source said.
The source also disclosed further that the NFF was expected to make contacts with sponsors to fund the new coach and prepare the Super Falcons for the task ahead.
