The crowd at the Bako Kontagora memorial stadium on Friday booed and stoned the immediate past governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, as he walked to the podium during the inauguration of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
Babangida who arrived at about 10.15 am rather than being hailed was booed and the shouts of ‘barawo’, ‘ole’, ‘thief’, ‘change has come’ filled the air.
The former governor who was said to have been advised not to attend the ceremony was not allowed to read his address as angry crowd continued to haul sachet water and stone at him.
It took the intervention of military men from the 31 Artillery Brigade to smuggle him out of the arena.
The new governor Abubakar Sani Bello and his Deputy, Mohammed Ketso were however administered the oath of office and allegiance by the Chief Judge, Justice Lami Abubakar.
Governor Sani Bello told the people, His words:”As the administration settles down, we will examine the books and study what is being handed over to us”.
