A former Governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, has been granted bail on self recognizance by the Magistrate Court sitting in Dutse.
The Court ruled that the offence for which he was being prosecuted is bailable.
But, the prosecution counsel had argued that granting Mr. Lamido bail could jeopardise peace in the state.
On his part, defence counsel posited that Mr. Lamido, remained innocent until proven guilty.
Prompt News recalls that Mr Lamido was arrested at his Kano residence on Sunday, for allegedly making inciting comments ahead of the forthcoming Local Government election in Jigawa state.
Consequent upon his arrest, the former Governor was arraigned on a four-count charge before Dutae Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
The trial Judge however, ordered that Mr. Lamido be reminded in Dutse prison pending hearing of his bail application.
Prompt News reports that Mr. Lamido served as the Governor of Jigawa state, from 1999 to 2003 and later as Minister or foreign Affairs.
