The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry with financial support from the European Union (EU) and the German Government have held the last Energy Efficiency Network (EEN) Meetings for the year.
The meetings which took place respectively on the 7th, 8th and 9th of December were organised within the framework of the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), a technical assistance programme, co-funded by the EU and the German Government and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power.
The EENs, established through NESP support in September 2020 aim at developing the technical capacity
of energy managers on how to independently implement profitable energy efficiency measures targeted at
optimising their production systems through quarterly meetings.
The meeting comprises trainings, knowledge exchange and sharing of experiences on energy efficiency best practices. As part of the network activities, in the 4th quarter meetings of the EEN, participants were trained by industry experts on Alternative Fuels and Electrical Drives Systems.
So far, participating companies of the EENs have achieved significant improvements in energy use, including
reductions in specific energy cost and CO2 emissions.
Speaking on his experience in the networks, Sunday Adondua, General Manager, Dangote Cement said ‘
“participating in the EEN has enabled the company to redirect its focus towards more systematic ways of improving performance to increase profitability”.
Also speaking on the achievements of the Networks, Duke Benjamin, Head of Programme, NESP said:
“Following the success of the Networks and a high level of interest from manufacturers to improve energy
performance, NESP would expand its support to the manufacturing sector with the establishment of additional
networks, trainings and certifications on energy management for energy managers and support towards the integration of ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) in more companies”.
Participating companies of the networks include Dangote Cement, Nigerian Breweries, Flour Mills of Nigeria,
PZ Cussons, CHI Limited, International Breweries, Nigerian Foundries, Vitafoam, Berger Paints, and Neimeth
