The Edem-Ani Community in Nsukka Local Government of Enugu State, says the community will complete and asphalt a two-kilometre road project within two weeks.

Igwe Samuel Asadu, the Traditional Ruler of Eden-Ani, disclosed this in Nsukka on Wednesday during the flagging off of the Odenigbo Edem-Ani two-kilometre road project while addressing his people.

Asadu said that the road was Edem-Ani People Road Construction Initiative project but funded by him.
He said that the road project would be done through direct labour and would be supervised by a team of engineers from the community.

“A rough estimate of this project shows it will cost between N200 million and N250 million, and I thank God who has provided this money though me.

“This road project will be completed within two weeks, according to team of engineers supervising it.
“We thank the past Enugu State Government of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who started the one-kilometre road and expect the new government in the state to come and complete it,” he said.

The traditional ruler commended the owner of Ferotex Construction Company Ltd., who gave the community road construction machines free of charge.

“We thank Ferotex for giving us heavy duty construction machines free of charge, we will only fuel them and use them to do the construction work,” he said.

Asadu expressed appreciation to all members of his community for their maximum support and cooperation since he was coronated last year as the traditional ruler of Eden-Ani.

The traditional ruler, who is a US-trained Nurse, said that by God’s special grace his reign would move the community to greater heights.

“On the day of my coronation, I told my people that my first four-agenda is to construct road, build borehole that will reticulate water in the community, empower youths in education and business as future leaders as well as build a befitting market for the community.

In a remark, Mr Chris Asogwa, a Civil Engineer and leader of team of engineers from the community that would supervise the road construction, said the project would be ready within two weeks.

Asogwa said that everything for the project to be completed within two weeks were already on ground.
“90 per cent of the job will be done by machines and the remaining will be done through community direct labour.

“Within two weeks, we will asphalt this two-kilometer Odenigbo Edem-Ani toad, the two sides drainages have already been done,”Asogwa said.

Earlier, Col. Emeka Ugwuoke (rtd), the President General of Eden-Ani Community, commened Edem-Ani people for always coming out to support the community in their various capacities, that is why the community is united.

“On behalf of the community, I applaud our traditional ruler who is funding this project. What Asadu thinks every minute is about the progress and development of Eden-Ani.

“Our prayer is that God will grant him long life and replenish his pocket,” he said .

Ugwuoke said when completed, the road would make it easier for farmers in the area to go to Nsukka town to sell their farm produce.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that indigenes of the community came out in their numbers as they were seen in various groups dancing and singing praises to God. (NAN)
