Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Right Hon. Kola Oluwawole, has charged lawyers in the country not to be wary in the task of upholding the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the nation’s bid to consolidate the gains of democracy.
The Speaker, who was the chairman of the occasion at a public lecture organised by the Ado-Ekiti Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to mark its 2015 Law Week, on Tuesday, also praised the law profession, describing it as one dear to his heart.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, Oluwawole said “members of the Bar have continued to show sense of knowledge which is an hallmark of the law profession. As such, you should continue to uphold the sanctity of the constitution. The law profession is a noble profession. I have no doubt that we have all come here to learn one new thing or the other here today.”
Among the lecturers who spoke on topics bordering on the theme of the Week, Consolidating the Gains of Democracy, with the sub-theme of ‘Terrorism, Security and the Place of Technology in Democracy,’ were a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Michael Opeyemi Bamidele; Mr Bunmi Olugbade and Mr Demola Adeyemi, all legal practitioners.
