Determined to conduct a free, fair and credible off-cycle governorship election in Edo state on Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Chairman of the Independent National Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu has stormed Benin City for a 3-Day Readiness Assessments Visit.
Yakubu who arrived Benin Airport on Monday is leading a high-powered INEC management team to ensure that all the arrangements the Commission have put in place to have a hitch-free governorship election in Edo state are intact.
While in Edo state, the INEC Chairman will on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 lead other management team to monitor the Mock Accreditation of voters in selected Polling Units in Edo state to test-run the deployment of BVAS for the election as well as the upload of scanned polling units results to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.
The itinerary of Yakubu on Tuesday obtained by Prompt News showed that he will lead the Readiness Assessments Visit team to INEC Local Government Areas (LGAs) offices at Ikpoba-Okha, Egor, Oredo and Ovia North East by 10am just as he will monitor a Mock Accreditation process at Western Boys High School 1 and Idia College, Benin City between II am to1pm.
The INEC boss will later preside over the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee On Election Security (ICCES) Meeting on Monday at INEC State Office, Benin – City by 3 pm.
On Wednesday, September 11, 2024 still in Benin City, Yakubu will preside over the INEC Stakeholders Meeting involving the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and all relevant stakeholders in Edo state including Political Parties and Civil Society Groups (CSOs).
Finally, INEC will on Thursday, September 12, 2024, organise the signing of the Peace Accord by candidates which will take place under the supervision of the National Peace Committee (NPC) chaired by former military Head of State of Nigeria, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd).
