Edo House of Assembly has urged Gov. Godwin Obaseki to activate the state security architecture to secure the release of the two kidnapped pupils of Gloryland International School, Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.
The assembly, at a plenary on Wednesday, also called on security agencies to increase their presence in Akoko-Edo by setting up response teams within the council area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the resolution was sequel to the motion moved under matter of urgent public importance moved by Mr. Emmanuel Agbaje (APC-Akoko-Edo II).
Agbaje, who decried insecurity in the council area, narrated how pupils of the school were kidnapped on their way from the school on Tuesday.
The lawmaker, who said that kidnapping had become rampant in the area, narrated how a person, who was going to pay ransom for the release of his family members, was kidnapped.
He urged the lawmakers to wade into the matter, with a view to rescuing the kidnapped pupils and putting an end to incessant kidnapping in the area.
Also speaking, Mr. Yekini Idaiye (PDP-Akoko-Edo I) said that the lawmakers had been trying their best to support members of the vigilante group and the hunters in the fight against insecurity, adding that they could do better.
On his part, Deputy Speaker, Mr. Roland Asoro, said it was worrisome that despite the efforts of the state government in addressing insecurity in the state, the level of insecurity was still on the increase.
The speaker, Marcus Onobun, who said that he was saddened by the poor state of security in the state, directed that the resolution be sent to relevant authorities for immediate action. (NAN)
