The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), has sympathised with the victims of flood that has revaged Maiduguri and environs.
Rev. Job Mallam, President of ECWA said this in a statement on Sunday in Jos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some days back, a flooding occured in Maiduguri and surrounding communities, which claimed lives and destroyed houses, markets, schools, among other critical infrastructure.
The World Health Organisation (WHO), reported that the flood was due to an opening on the banks of Alau dam.
WHO added that the incident had displaced over one million people and heightened health risks, including cholera and other waterborne diseases, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation in Borno.
Mallam, who called for adequate support for victims, commmended the Federal, States and other relevant authorities for prompt intervention.
He particularly thanked the Nigerian military, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other international organisations for their prompt response.
”On behalf of ECWA, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to the communities across Nigeria affected by the recent catastrophic flooding.
”As reports of widespread devastation emerge from states particularly Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and others, we stand united in mourning for those who have lost their loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.
”The impact of this natural disaster has been profound, and our thoughts and prayers are with the countless families grappling with the aftermath.
”We call on relevant government agencies, NGOs, religious bodies and spirited individuals to embark on providing emergency supplies such as food, water, clothing, shelter, and medical assistance to the affected areas,”he called.
The president further called on government and organisations to prioritise recovery efforts and provide necessary resources to rebuild the devastated communities.
He also advised government to put in place preventive measures that would safeguard communities against similar occurrence in future. (NAN).
