The Ebonyi Government says it will soon embark on an on-the-spot assessment of its water facilities as part of the steps to provide potable water for the people.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Jude Okpor, saud this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of Thursday’s state Executive Council (EXCO) meeting in Abakaliki.
Okpor said that the assessment was in line with the present administration’s plan to ensure uninterrupted water supply to Ebonyi citizens and residents living in different parts of the state.
According to him, the Commissioner for Water Resources presented the progress report on the reactivation of the low-lift facility at Water Works, Abakaliki and other water facilities in the state.
“The EXCO noted the report and resolved to embark on an on-the-spot assessment of the water facilities, particularly the Water Works, Abakaliki,” the commissioner said.
On agriculture, Okpor said that the council received a memo from the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources on the commercialisation of the Ebonyi Riceworld and took certain resolutions.
He said that part of the resolutions was “To access government lands across the three Senatorial Districts for commercial rice production so as to produce enough input for the smooth operations of the state-owned rice processing plants”.
He said that the EXCO also resolved to principally patronise local rice farmers across the state as a major source of rice paddy for processing in the industry.
“This is to serve as a way of encouraging local rice farmers in the state to gain as well as increase their production size,” Okpor said. (NAN). READ ALSO:
