The Deputy Governor of Ebonyi state, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, on Tuesday directed all health workers in the state to quickly undergo COVID-19 test, disclosing that some had earlier tested positive to the pandemic.
He gave the directive during a meeting with the frontline health workers at the old Government House, Abakaliki.
Dr. Kelechi noted the necessity of the test adding that it is of no use treating others if the health workers are infected.
He further directed Caretaker Chairmen of the 13 local governments of the state to take full charge on campaign against the spread of the virus in their respective councils by ensuring house-to-house testing exercise using the Health workers.
“Some Health workers in recent time have tested positive to Covid-19, therefore, we must be sure that our Health workers are safe before giving them the privilege of going to render care to those who are infected,” said the Deputy.
In his contribution, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, said the house-to-house check will help control the spread of the virus in various communities. He noted the upgrading of General Hospitals in each senatorial zone of the state will enhance screening and testing.
According to Dr. Umezurike; “If a person tests positive, he or she will be taken for treatment while those who are negative but have other pathologies will be treated in the General Hospitals where they were received.
Meanwhile, various Ministries, Departments and Agencies have embarked on one hour daily prayers for 10 days for the quick recovery of the state Governor and others who have been infected by Coronavirus.
