The Police, on Friday arraigned a 21-year-old Drycleaner David Sunday at a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja for alleged criminal intimidation and theft.
The defendant, Sunday of Jabi FCT, Abuja is charged with mischief, theft and criminal intimidation.
The prosecution council Stanley Nwafoaku, alleged that on Sept. 18 at about 7:30pm, the complainant Haziri George of Jabi, and employer of the defendant reported the matter at Life Camp Police Station .
Nwafoaku alleged that on Sept.11, the complainant gave the defendant five pieces of clothes for laundry and paid him N700 for his bill.
He said the defendant intentionally refused to do the job which provoked disagreement between the complainant and the defendant.
The prosecution council further alleged that the defendant destroyed properties in the shop which include Net, valued at N35, 000, Tampoline at N45, 000 and stole N25, 000 cash.
Nwafoaku added that the defendant intimidated and threatened the complainant, saying he was a cultist, promising to deal with him.
The prosecution council told the court that during police investigation, the defendant admitted to the offence adding that the offence contravenes section 327, 288 and 389 of the penal code law.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The defence counsel, Charity Nwosu made a bail application for her client in the most liberal terms.
Nwosu made the application citing sections 36 of the 1999 constitution and sections 158 of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, promised that the defendant will not jump bail if granted same.
The prosecution counsel, however, did not object to the bail application made by the defence counsel.
The Judge, Muhammed Wakili admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 and one surety in like sum.
Wakili ordered that the surety must provide a BVN print out, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
The Judge adjourned the matter until Dec.20, for hearing. (NAN)
