Dividends of Democracy: Computer Professionals Urge Buhari to Leverage on IT

The leadership of Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPRCN) today in Abuja paid a courtesy visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa Abuja with a call that the Next Level Agenda we require a lot of leveraging on IT to deliver the dividend of democracy.    

Speaking to the State House Correspondent after the visit to the President, the Chairman in Council Professor Charles Uwadia, argued that Social Media is not entirely bad as the activities of some bad elements have portrayed it.   

According to him, “the Social Media is the making of all embracing open IT landscape. But of course with the openness we expect responsibility. First personal responsibilities and group responsibilities so that we can have the collective good of everybody”.     

He also said, “Of course we do know that the Social Media is being misused. We are all very familiar with the incidents of Fake News. But having said that there is more good in Social Media than bad.

So while we are dealing with those who are creating the bad image I think we should keep on doing all we need to do so that Social Media will give us much value needed by humanity, not just Nigerians but humanity generally. That’s our message”.

On why he and his colleagues are the Villa, Prof. Uwadia said, “We are here on a congratulatory courtesy call. Basically, as you are all aware the Supreme Court of Nigeria has given the judgment and because of that, clearly the President has been returned for the second term of four years and we IT professionals believe that this is the appropriate time to come and pay homage. And then of course to thank him for all he has done for IT industry, the IT profession in the last four years.  

“We thank him immensely for leveraging on the part of IT, ICT on nation building and then of course to exalt him on what more to do as we talking about the Next Level Agenda.

“The Next Level Agenda we believe will require lot more leveraging on  IT to deliver employment to our teeming youths, to diversify the economy, to fight corruption and of course to fight insecurity and ensure that we have a more secure environment in the nation.

“I think that is the summary of the visit to His Excellency” .   Others who came with the Chairman are Professor Adesina Simon Sodiya, President Nigeria Computer Society  and Registrar/ Secretary to Council, Mr. Allwell Achumba.
