The Delta House of Assembly on Tuesday considered a Bill to amend the Revised Appropriation Bill, 2023 on resumption from six weeks vacation.
The bill, which was earlier conveyed to the Assembly by Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori through a letter, was read by the Speaker, Mr Dennis Guwor during plenary in Asaba.
Oborevwori, in the letter, recalled that he had in September 2023 presented a Supplementary Appropriation Bill to the Assembly for approval, which was graciously approved.
According to the governor, the aforementioned amendment has become necessary to reflect the changes in the budget, which budget size stands at N809.8 billion for the year ended Dec. 31, 2023 .
”In the light of the foregoing, it will be greatly appreciated if the draft 2023 Amended Revised Appropriation Bill is placed before the House at its earliest convenience for consideration and passage, ” he said.
Consequently, the Majority Leader, Mr Emeka Nwaobi moved a motion for the governor’s request to be considered for the First and Second reading.
Meanwhile, the Speaker, Mr Dennis Guwor pledged the continuous legislative support to the actualisation of the Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s programmes.
Guwor, while welcoming the lawmakers back from vacation, urged them to continue to support the Executive through legislative interventions in line with the 8th Assembly’s agenda.
”We will continue to provide legislative support for the pursuit of the agenda of the Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration.
”We will also ensure the synergy needed to see to the full realisation of the ‘MORE Agenda’ for the benefit of the people of Delta, ” he said.
The speaker commended the state government for approving the new minimum wage and setting up a committee to work out the consequential adjustments for its implementation.
He also lauded the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) and others in the House for their support and cooperation.
He informed PASAN members that the issue of their welfare was receiving positive attention.(NAN).
