Imam Abubakar-Ayinla, the Provost of Kwara College of Nursing and Midwifery, llorin, has urged the Federal Government to allocate more funds to the nation’s health sector in order to curtail the spread of the COVID-19.
Abubakar-Ayinla made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in llorin on Wednesday.
According to the provost, provision of qualitative health care by the three tiers of government has become imperative to ensure the well-being of the people.
“It is only healthy citizens that can contribute meaningfully to the economic growth and development of the country.
“The Federal Government should inject more funds and qualified personnel to wipe out coronavirus pandemic as the spread rate is becoming alarming,’’ he said.
Abubakar-Ayinla, however, commended Nigeria’s health workers for their sacrifice, courage and professionalism in the wake of the pandemic.
“Health workers put their lives on the line to save the rest of us, and they are always out there staring death in the face by daring the coronavirus, ’’ he said.
Abubakar-Ayinla called on both the federal and state governments to show appreciation to health workers through the provision of a special package.
The provost, while reacting to the four cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kwara, advised residents to comply with the state government’s restriction order.
He urged the residents of the state to maintain personal hygiene as well as shun social gatherings or any act that could further aid the spread of the pandemic.
